Volta New York, 2023

Solo exhibition by Dominican artist Manuel Mera, presented by Catalysta at Volta Art Fair in New York City from May 17–21, 2023.

The booth explored portals as transitions between the physical and digital, the abstract and the symbolic. Mera combines abstraction with recognizable elements, saturated colors, geometric planes, gradients, and layered textures, merging personal mythology with science-fiction aesthetics.

Mera reinterprets earlier paintings as fossilized fragments, using layers of paint as foundations for new visual spaces. The works explore materiality through the accumulation, alteration, and reduction of painted layers.
